Outset of a new exploration stage at Russian heavy oil and natural bitumen fields

Currently the issues related to the perspective developments of heavy oil (HO) and natural bitumen (NB) fields are becoming more and more acute. The reason of that is correlated with the constant growth in oil price that in combination with beneficial Mineral Extraction Tax gives the increase towards the investment attractiveness of these projects. More that 2/3 of world oil reserves are considered as reserves of HO and NB categories.  It should be noted that nearly half of them are referred to as non-recoverable reserves while applying modern commercially available field development procedures. Oil Company Rosneft has been paying a great deal of interest towards the so-called “hard-to-recover reserves”. It has summarized the domestic and international experience, has performed pilot jobs using the presently available procedures, conducted innovation activities in making the new process decisions.

Prospects of low-efficient carbonaceous oil fringes development at Udmurtneft oilfields

The specifics of oil fringes development which have an extensive gas cap is described on the example of Vereiskian horizon in Kiengopskoe field. In order to recover reserves more completely there were offered various well spacing patterns which combine multi-hole wells and directional sidetracked wells. It is shown the benchmark of the offered options, and that barrier water flooding through multi-hole wells is more preferable compared to conventional schemes. The most efficient well spacing pattern was chosen. The efficiency of multi-hole drilling is demonstrated in comparison with traditional development methods.

The results of studies of the effect of wettability of the pore space of carbonate reservoirs of the Samara oblast oil fields on the flood displacement efficiency are presented. Accumulated laboratory data for the determination of the flood displacement efficiency by В1 layers of the Samara oblast oil fields are summarized. It was shown that by the investigated samples the hydrophilic productive strata are characterized by higher (by 12% on average) flood displacement efficiencies.

Multiphase flow measurements: Vankor experience

Provision for oil, gas, and water surface rate measurements from every production well is one of the most required issues for effective field development management. Due to the oil degassing during lift to the surface, gas and water breakthroughs, and high liquid rates, this task has become serious challenge for the Vankor wells. Preliminary, cyclone-based gas-separators have been considered in the field as the means for primary phase separation and consequent measurement of the each phase rate using Coriolis-based mass metering units. Another unit type for multiphase flow rate measurements uses Venturi tube and radioactive source for gas and water holdups measurement. Inflow performance relationships were plotted, average well drainage area was estimated, and reservoir properties distribution was précised based on the improvement of measurement accuracy.

Presented are prospective lines of repair and insulating works technologies testing: an increase in production string drift diameter during the liquidation of its nonhermeticity with mechanical means, to improve the quality of work to eliminate the behind-the-casing circulation in thin bridges, the selective isolation of watered layers are presented. The results of the fulfilled works are given.

Oil-trunk pipeline Vankorskoye field — KNPS Purpe pneumo-testing

In August 2009, the oil-trunk pipeline Vankorskoye field — KNPS Purpe, 820 mm dia. was put into operation, providing oil transfer from Vankorskoye field of Oil Company Rosneft to oil-trunk system of Transneft AK OAO. For the first time a pipeline was subjected to full-scale test, including hydro-test of above-ground pipeline section 228,7 km long and pneumatic test of underground, trenched pipeline section 327,8 km long. Such works required state-of-the-art scientific and technical approach in the field of strength theory, metrological technique, electronics and compressoring. Pneumo-testing allowed putting the oil pipeline into operation in-time, assuring its high quality.

On the basis of large actual material it was confirmed that in conditions of oil deposits of Perm Prikamye the results of geophysical investigations of wells (GIW) can be used for estimation of permeability in terrigenous rocks-reservoirs. Multidimensional dependencies for estimation of permeability via porosity, relative shaliness and relative specific resistance, which can be determined rather reliably according to GIW data in conditions of terrigenous rocks-reservoirs, were proposed for concrete production facilities.

Problems of reservoir stratified heterogeneity effect on the efficiency of thermal-steam treatments of well bottom zone are considered. By calculations it is shown that the negative effect of reservoir heterogeneity in many cases can be neutralized at thermal-steam treatments of well bottom zone through the mechanism of heat exchange between the permeable and impermeable layers. For a fixed volume of steam injection, there are optimal values of the compartmentalization and sand content factors i.e. such ones, at which technological efficiency of thermal-steam treatments of well bottom zone is maximum.

Methodology for smart well simulation and optimization

The approach for smart well optimization that can be applied to full field reservoir models is presented. The problem is solved by using commercial simulator coupled with an add-on controller program.
