On effect of grid block size on forecast performance of reservoirs developed by vertical and horizontal wells

Key words: grid block, horizontal well, basin and reservoir modeling, relative error, cumulative oil production.

The paper analyzes the effect of grid block sizes on performance of reservoir developed by vertical and horizontal wells. Based on the analysis of the forecast reservoir performance, dynamic plots of cumulative oil production, oil production rate and water cut versus grid block size have been obtained. Concrete grid block sizes have been empirically found that do not lead to any noticeable change in reservoir performance when the grid is downscaled.

Geomechanical Conditions of Successful Acid Fracturing Applications

Key words: acid fracturing, geomechanics, well productivity.

Analysis of conductivity changes of acid-etched fractures depending on influential factors has been conducted. The following conclusions have been made. Efficiency of acid fracturing increases with decrease of producing reservoir depth. Appropriate candidate formations for acid fracturing are those characterized by high Brinnel hardness and those having low fracturing pressures. Reservoir pressure drop is not allowed while operating the wells with acid-etched fractures. Instead, increase of reservoir pressure is advisable. If the stress resulting in loss of conductivity in acid-etched fractures lies within the actual range of compressional stresses (from 0 to 30 MPa in Tatarstan conditions), so the optimum value of reservoir pressure drawdown will exist ensuring maximum production rate and well productivity. Combination of horizontal wells and multiple transverse acid-etched fractures is a viable solution for reduction of compressional stress.

The technology of channeling control based on production casing cutting in the behind-the-casing flow interval

Key words: well, formation, behind-the-casing flow, production casing, cement slurry.

Channeling control technologies conventionally applied by Tatneft are characterized by rather low effectiveness. A new technology has been developed that allows replacing the cement sheath in the behind-the-casing flow interval rather than sealing it. The casing in the leaking interval is cut, the cement sheath and the mud cake are removed, and the interval is reliably plugged. The technology application is limited by production targets above the water producing intervals. To date, this technology has been applied in more than 60 Tatneft’s wells, and it will still be used in more wells.

Potential of hydrocarbon deposits exploration in the interior zone of Belskaya Depression, Pre-Ural Foredeep

Key words: Pre-Ural Foredeep, interior zone, Alataus sediments, reverse and thrust faulting, hydrocarbon potential.

The exploration maturity including both seismic and drilling of the interior zone of Belskaya Depression, Pre-Ural Foredeep is extremely low especially in its eastern part which borders on the Ural fold belt. At the same time it has been confirmed that the main structural style within the Paleozoic sedimentary sequence in this area is associated with linear elongated (up to 90 km long) thrust and reverse fault deformations with folded front limbs trending in the same direction as the Ural mountains. Originally similar thrusted structures are proved at Arkhangelskoye and Tabynskoye fields located in the core zone of the Pre-Ural Foredeep with oil reservoirs within the Permian (Artinskian), Middle Carboniferous (Myachkovskian) and the Middle Devonian-Tournaisian carbonates. The high degree of tectonic deformation, numerous oil and gas shows of varying intensity and stratigraphic confinement as well as the presence of the regional cap rock which consists of both siliciclastics and carbonates (Lower Carboniferous Alataus Formation) contribute to the high HC potential of the interior zone of Belskaya Depression for further study and exploration.

On the influence of the sideholes profile on the initial production rate of wells (by example of Nizhne-Sortimskoye oilfield)

Key words: profile of sideholes, cross break zone, horizontal section, liquid rate, dynamic equation.

The article analyses the influence of the profile of sideholes on the initial production rate of wells in order to select the optimal profile for sideholes drilling. Having considered the cases under analysis, we have concluded that the productivity rates of S-shaped sideholes are comparable to the productivity rates of straight-line sideholes. In the case of sideholes with complicated horizontal section the results differ a lot. In order to prove the inexpediency of sideholes having cross breaks zones, it is necessary to undertake the well logging complex and find functioning layer intervals. Sideholes hydrodynamic research is also important.

Working out and operation of oil deposits

Geological substantiation of technology of oil field development within salinized low-permeability reservoirs

Key words: low-permeable salinizated petroleum reservoirs, Pripyat Trough, prospecting and exploitation of oil deposits, dissolution of catagenetic halite

Low permeability of petroleum reservoirs in subsaliferous and intersaliferous deposits within many oil- and salt-bearing regions of the world is often conditioned by catagenetic filling of voids in rocks with halite and other minerals (anhydrite, calcite, dolomite). The Irkutsk Amphitheatre and Tungus Basin in Russia, the Pripyat Trough in Belarus, the Triassic Province in Algeria, the Michigan Basin in USA could be mentioned among such regions. The intensive dissolution of catagenetic halite and the removal of this process products together with by-product water of producing wells onto the surface take place under oil deposits development using fresh water for oil driving and keeping of reservoir pressure. The mentioned above regularities are recommended to use for creating technologies of oil field development within salinized low-permeability reservoirs. The efficiency of the suggested technology is considered based on a test hydrodynamic model.

Effectiveness of oil reservoir fracturing in case of high gas saturation

Key words: oil reservoir, productivity factor, well, fracturing, bottomhole pressure, proppant.

The paper presents the results of hydraulic fracturing on the field with high gas saturation of reservoir oil. The geometric dimensions - volume of pumped fracture proppant relationship is shown. Wells operation conditions after hydraulic fracturing are plotted against these conditions before hydraulic fracturing. There was a sharp decrease in flow rates after fracturing in wells with low bottomhole pressure. The authors give several recommendations on selecting wells for hydraulic fracturing for examined layer and similar objects.

Development of methods for the assessment of occupational risk tank farm workers

Key words: professional risk, technique, safety, a special assessment of working conditions, production control.

The problem of the current legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of risk management is the lack of computational techniques occupational risk assessment adapted to hazardous production facilities of oil and gas complex. Therefore, in this paper we propose a universal technique for occupational risk assessment of workers, which can be used in oil and gas companies, in particular at the tank farms.

Oil spill utilization by peat sprbent

Key words: peat sorbent, heat treatment, oil, microorganisms, decomposition degree.

Researches of air-dried and heat-treated peat sorbent for determining its ability to destroy oil on the water surface were carried out. Physiological groups of bacterium and microorganisms from raw and oil contaminated peat extracts, which were in contact with oil and drinking water from centralized supply systems during two months, were defined. Also it was found that heat treatment has impact on bacterium reproductive activity, oil destruction rate, oil concentration in water.
