Roslov (Seismoshelf LLC) Modeling of petroleum systems of South Kara Basin: principles and results DOI: Basin modeling for South Kara Basin was performed with use of Temis Suite 2008 software in 3D format to determine timing and scale of hydrocarbon generation and to predict the most favorable migration paths and hydrocarbon accumulation areas. Sedimentation modeling in Dionisos software was performed prior to the HC system modeling. That enabled to forecast the most probable distribution of lithofacies, including source rocks, reservoirs and seals at qualitatively new level. The key role of Jurassic source rocks in hydrocarbon fields formed in South Kara Basin is discussed in the study. The main practical result of the study is a resource estimate and phase forecast. As it is shown in the study, new large HC discoveries with sufficient liquid component are likely to be made in South Kara Basin.

Roslov (Seismoshelf LLC) New look at the seismic stratigraphy and hydrocarbon systems of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks of North Kara shelf DOI: North Kara shelf is one of the poorly explored, but highly prospective area for hydrocarbon discoveries in Russian Arctic. Based on marine seismic and onshore geology data we recognized three main unconformities within the North Kara shelf: Late Baikalian, Caledonian and Herzinian. We believe that general structural pattern of the North Kara region was formed in Late Carboniferous-Early Permian time as a result of collision-related orogeny of Taimyr-Severnaya Zemlya domain. The re-interpretation of seismic data and subsequent basin modeling led us to conclusion that North Kara may represent mostly gas-bearing basin due to the high maturity of Lower Paleozoic source rocks.

N.P. Zapivalov (Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the SB RAS) On the threshold of critical state of fluid-saturated systems, longevity of oilfields, and high final production rate DOI: Nowadays, the problem of enhanced and improved oil recovery is a key one in petroleum theory and practice. Many enhanced oil recovery methods (EOR) are currently being used at local oilfields. But forcible secondary, tertiary and quaternary methods of enhanced oil recovery do not provide a scale effect. There are about 1500 active projects in the world using various EOR technologies, and their annual production build-up is estimated as 100-120 million tons. It is just about 2% of all produced oil in the world, which is equivalent to the total transporting and other losses. In terms of the final oil recovery, at many oilfields the efficiency of EOR is very low or zero. The author offers a fundamentally new scientifical-technological paradigm of exploitation, preservation, and rehabilitation of petroleum resources.

Plynin V.V., Fomkin A.V, Urazov S.S. (Zarubezhneft JSC) Chemical transformation model for numerical simulation of the oxidation of oil in the reservoir (in situ combustion) DOI: Projects to develop oil fields, which include air injection, potentially very effective, especially when extraction of heavy oil. However, to date, in situ combustion is poorly studied, and hugely complex for numerical simulation. An approach to forming CTМ is proposed on the basis of three principles, which avoids a number of blunders committed by some researchers. The article provides an example of the formation of CTМ based on the proposed approach and its discussion.
