Increase of oil recoverability in Russian Federation and in Republic of Tatarstan in the recent years is attributed, mainly, to re-estimating and increasing of oil recovery factor, rather than new oil discoveries, because of curtailment of geological exploration due to the expensiveness thereof and the resulting risks reduction. In this situation, more emphasis shall be placed on oil recovery factor, which takes on a key part. However, the role of oil recovery factor for reserves calculation has been underestimated.
Key words: reserves, increment, geologic exploration, re-estimation, oil recovery factor.
