The prospects of discovering new hydrocarbon reservoirs within or near mature fields are associated with exploration for traps in near-fault regions separating anticline (controlling the field) and syncline significantly affecting original hydrocarbon deposits. Optimal exploration approach must be reoriented towards mapping of the fault and tectono-physical traps within the near-fault region. To evaluate prospects within any mature field first and foremost one should assess its tectonic position, tectonic history, define the last stage of tectonic activation, reconstruct paleo-structures, and diagnose tectonically active synclines
