High-paraffin crude treatment technology by the pour point depressant at shelf fields

The case of South China Sea offshore fields of Vietsovpetro JV describes methods and approaches to improve rheological properties of the high paraffin crude oil with the use of pour point depressants under offshore production conditions. The system of organizational, technical and process activities is created which allow for an optimal and effective use of chemical agents to prepare the oil for transportation. The system includes control over documents and quality of the incoming chemicals; their effectiveness during lab and field tests, screening tests for chemicals at the stage of lab tests and industrial implementation. The article covers the issues of optimization of the oil treatment technology by depressants – injection into wells to 2000-2500 m through impulse tubes; combined oil treatment with depressants and de-emulsifiers; synergistic effect from implementation of two pour point depressants blend. Reviewed complications which appear during implementation of the pour point depressants oil treatment technology and resolving methods. Covered methods to optimize depressants implementation are seasonal variation of dosage, rejection from injecting the pour point depressants into high water-cut wells, individual dosage of the pour point depressants in each well.
